3. Compositions of ceramic insulators

3.1 General

In the introduction, we mentioned the "composite" nature of ceramics, made up of grains separated by grain boundaries, which can be of the same or different compositions. In all applications of ceramics, particularly in the field of electronics and electrical engineering, the effects of mixtures are very often relied upon to obtain the desired properties, for example: good mechanical strength and electrical insulation, adaptation of expansion coefficients, obtaining high capacitance stabilities within a given temperature range for a capacitor, etc.
