1. Special features of these capacitors

1.1 General information. Equivalent diagram

Capacitors used in electronics to raise the power factor, start single-phase induction motors, etc., meet the following conditions of use:

  • quasi-sinusoidal operation at industrial frequencies (50 or 60 Hz);

  • no significant DC voltage at their terminals.

Finally, their series residual inductance is not specified; its value can be quite high without any significant consequences in the above-mentioned applications.

  • Such conditions are quite the opposite of those offered to capacitors used in power electronics circuits. In these circuits :
