Austenitization; austenitization
The process of heating a material to a temperature above its austenitizing temperature in order to transform it into an austenitic structure.
Carbonitriding
A thermochemical treatment process combining carburizing and nitriding, providing both increased surface hardness and improved wear resistance.
Cementation; cementation
The thermochemical process of absorbing carbon into a low-grade steel to increase its surface hardness while retaining a resilient core.
Cementite; cementite
Cementite is an intermetallic compound of iron and carbon (Fe 3 C) found in high-carbon steels. It is hard and brittle.
