INTRODUCTION
The architectural design of some building projects provides for an open volume, laid out as a courtyard or interior street, covered or uncovered, and surrounded by levels for a wide variety of uses (stores, offices, hotel rooms, circulation areas, etc.). The outbreak of a fire in this volume or its immediate surroundings creates the risk of fire, smoke and hot gases spreading.
The purpose of Technical Instruction no. 263 is to define the construction rules and smoke extraction principles for these volumes. It applies to 1 er group establishments, and to 2 nd group establishments where staircase enclosure is required.
However, it does not apply to :
hoppers created by the possible communication between up to three levels, when authorized by specific provisions;
interior streets.
