The term "public works" is used to describe all bridge, road, railroad, earthworks, drainage, airport, pipeline and power line projects carried out on behalf of both public and private clients.
Public Works are different from buildings (housing, offices, schools, hospitals, sheds), which are intended to house people or goods.
Public works companies, generally organized on a decentralized basis (head holding company, regional divisions, subsidiaries, agencies, worksites), see worksites as their products.
