1. The BIM concept

1.1 Principle

BIM stands for "Building Information Modeling". In some cases, the M stands for "Model" or "Management".

In French, it can be translated as "modèle d'information du bâtiment" or "modélisation de l'information du bâtiment", or "gestion de l'information du bâtiment".

The term "maquette numérique" is also frequently used in France.

Behind the acronym lies a concept which, in its ideal version, consists of sharing and collaborating all the players in a construction project around a digital model! (figure 1 ).
