3.1 General
A vertical breakwater is essentially a monolithic vertical wall, or a series of interconnected elements designed to reflect wave energy by total reflection.
It rests on a foundation generally made of small-sized riprap (crushed ballast, for example), protected against wave action by much larger elements.
