1.1 Waterways in Europe and around the world
There are over 600,000 km of navigable waterways worldwide. More than 50 countries have a navigable network over 1,000 km long, but the majority of these networks are under-utilized. The largest networks are located in China, Russia, Brazil, the European Union (EU) and the USA .
In China, the total length of the network is 127,000 km, but commercially important waterways total 24,000 km.
