9. Conclusion
Pavements are structures that wear naturally over time and under the effects of use.
Pavements carry a wide range of vehicles every day. Developments in the materials used and knowledge of their behavior over time have led to optimized design of pavement structures in recent years.
Nevertheless, this optimization, if poorly controlled, can lead to a number of pathologies which are detailed in this article.
It is likely that one of the profession's major challenges will be to enable greater recycling of existing pavement structures, with the constant aim of limiting the use of natural resources and the impact in terms of sustainable development.
