 INTRODUCTION

The current practice of building or rehabilitating concrete structures for receiving, transferring, treating or storing water or liquids highlights various gaps in the knowledge and use of dedicated vocabulary among the various participants in the act of building.

In this complementary article to [C3670], we felt it important to bring together a non-exhaustive terminology base, enabling these players, whatever their experience, to find the definition of the main recurring terms so that their vocabulary is used accurately and enables them to understand each other better.

It should be noted that the book entitled "Pathologie et réparation des ouvrages en béton de stockage et de transport des liquides" (Pathology and repair of concrete structures for storing and transporting liquids) published in 1996 in the annals of ITBTP proposed in chapter XIII a terminology more oriented towards "repair of structures".

The forthcoming article C3674 on the pathology, diagnosis and rehabilitation of concrete structures for receiving, transferring, treating or storing water or liquids, will present a new terminology in the form of an appendix to the 1996 publication, including new terms and an update of some others.

This article does not necessarily cover all the vocabulary specific to prestressing. Readers may wish to refer to other publications dealing with this specific vocabulary.
