2.1 Field of application

The new layer of concrete is usually poured directly or applied as shotcrete. Its function is to increase the deflected cross-sectional area of the concrete element (by increasing the compressive and tensile strength zones under bending loads), depending on the application and placement of this additional layer of concrete.

It should be noted that prior to laying the new concrete covering, the surface where the old reinforced concrete element was laid must be prepared by appropriate means and pre-wetted to ensure proper installation (see following chapters for more details).
