Overview
ABSTRACT
Structural fire design calculation methods are explained within two parts, this article and the next (C 2507), by referring to Structural Eurocodes.
In this first part, the French regulatory system is recalled with the main requirements for building fire safety.
Then, actions in case of fire are described, followed by the heat transfer to steel or composite structural elements.

INTRODUCTION
Methods for verifying the fire behavior of steel or composite structures are presented in two parts, in articles
In this first part, we review the French regulatory context and the main requirements for fire safety in buildings. This is followed by a discussion of the actions to be taken on structures in a fire situation, and then the determination of the heat rise of structural elements, whether steel or composite.
