2.1 Dissipative project objectives and criteria

  • The aim of the project is to form an overall plastic mechanism, which corresponds to a framework where plastic hinges are formed in the beams or their connections, and not in the columns. This overall mechanism, known as "weak beams – strong columns", is illustrated in figure 11 . Here, we accept the formation of plastic hinges at the base of the columns, where they are inevitable, and at their top, where they have no different effect from hinges at the end of the beams.
