2. Purification systems decree of September 7, 2009
Prior to the publication of the September 7, 2009 decree laying down the technical specifications applicable to non-collective sanitation systems, micro wastewater treatment plants were considered to provide only pre-treatment, in the same way as all-water pits. The 2009 decree put an end to this situation, but stipulates that "domestic wastewater can also be treated by installations made up of devices approved by the ministries in charge of ecology and health, following a procedure to assess their effectiveness and the risks that the installations may directly or indirectly generate for health and the environment".
