10. Conclusion

Transfer lines are not just a convenience. They are often the weak link in a cryogenic system, due to poorly mastered or overly simplistic design and lack of maintenance. Design requires skills in mechanics, cryogenics and thermal engineering. Manufacturing and installation call on the noble skills of boiler making.

As industrial and scientific facilities become more powerful, transfer lines become even more important to ensure the reliability of cryogenic installations.

The multilines for transferring the ITER project into a nuclear environment were recognized as being more complex to design than the other equipment in the cryogenic system. The ITER project, carried out in collaboration with ITER india's domestic agency, puts vacuum lines back on the map.
