3.1 General
Between 1963 and 1973, Japanese cement consumption increased by 10% per year, reaching 750 kg per capita in 1973. Faced with market pressures and the limitations of existing plants in terms of availability, thermal load and unit production capacity, the Japanese cement industry was strongly motivated to develop the precalcining concept.
