1. Notions about tidal energy

Our aim is not to reiterate the theory of tides, nor to explain their extreme variety. For that, we recommend reading Robert Gibrat's lecture on tidal energy, delivered at the Société Astronomique de France on April 20, 1955 , the conclusions of which are reproduced below.

We know that the tide is due to the attractions of the Moon and Sun on the fluid mass of the oceans. What's less obvious is the reason for the great diversity of tides along the world's coasts. The Moon, closer to the Earth than the Sun, exerts a dominant attraction. When the Moon passes over the zenith of a location, it attracts water from the part of the oceans...
