2.1 Influence of the terrain
Most terrains are made up of a mixture of topographical configurations that influence the winds. Changes in wind speed near the ground for small and medium-sized hills are of the same order of magnitude as those due to typical changes in vegetation and obstacle density. Figure 2 shows a (somewhat exaggerated) variation in wind speed at 10 m above ground level, as one moves away from the coast towards the mainland.
