4. Installation of heat-generating systems

4.1 Heat production plants

Heat generation plants fall into two categories: thermal plants, which produce heat, and cogeneration plants, which produce heat and electrical energy. To choose the right type of heat production source, you need to consider the following aspects:

  • the type of primary energy resource today and in the future;

  • the type of heat consumer (urban or tertiary) and the characteristics of the heat demand;

  • in the case of cogeneration plants, the type of plant for combined production (steam turbine, combustion turbine, internal combustion engines, etc.);

  • the size and characteristics of the heat supply zone;
