Atlases of wind potential at various locations around the globe or in a given region give a good idea of this potential on a medium to large scale. When selecting and evaluating a site, it's important to take into account local particularities.
Wind measurements enable us to determine all the variations that can occur, due to: large-scale planetary winds, medium-scale cyclonic disturbances, small-scale local winds and small-scale atmospheric turbulence. Measuring the characteristics of these winds on different scales is the key to exploiting the energy potential of a wind farm.
