3.1.1 Fallout from nuclear weapons testing
Weapons tests in the atmosphere took place between 1945 and 1980, mainly by five powers: the USA, the former USSR, the UK, France and the People's Republic of China. The number of launches for each power is now known: 195, 226, 21, 45 and 22 respectively. The total power delivered, usually expressed in Mt of TNT, was 153, 107, 16.7, 10.1 and 20.7 respectively.
