4. Detector selection

When designing an out-of-core instrumentation system, detectors need to be chosen according to the dynamics of the neutron flux to be covered and the gamma dose rate, and these parameters need to be specified at the detector location.

4.1 Low neutron level

At low levels, the number of neutrons available and the neutron flux are low, but the gamma dose rate can be high. The only detectors that can be used to obtain purely neutron information are pulse detectors: proportional counters...
