Software used for nuclear safety studies can :
or be specific to the nuclear field; these are mainly thermal-hydraulics software for water reactors, neutronics software (these calculation tools are used in particular for the design of reactor cores, but also for studies relating to criticality risks), fuel thermomechanics software and software dealing with reactor core meltdown accidents;
or are aimed at other industrial sectors (aeronautics, civil engineering, etc.); these include CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) software, mechanics software used to study the resistance of structures to static or dynamic loading (earthquake), software used to study the reliability of programmed systems, or software used to calculate the consequences of an explosion or the propagation of a fire.
