5. Consideration of the retaining spring

The retaining spring greatly reduces the amplitude of the gas signals (figure 16 ), but velocity measurements do not seem to be affected by its presence (figure 17 ). As a first approximation, the spring is shown to hinder the establishment of standing waves.
