1. Virtual reality-assisted design
1.1 CAD and CARV
CAD (computer-aided design) is constantly evolving to better meet the needs of designers. Since the introduction of computers into design offices, the evolution of design has been relentless: in the early days, the main aim was to replace industrial drawings with their 2D digital counterparts. This was the era of CAD, or computer-aided drafting. Later, the computer was tasked with simulating physical phenomena to validate design choices: "classical" CAD exploiting numerical methods, calculated in deferred time (such as the finite element method, etc.). The results obtained enable the engineer to objectively validate his design, subject to the quality of his modeling. As computers became more powerful, the special case of simulating optical laws also made it possible...
