3. Evaporation mode and mass resolution

Good precision on the time of flight and on the energy acquired by the ion gives an excellent measurement of the mass ratio m to charge n of the emitted ion. The important thing, of course, is to separate two peaks of close mass.

Example

in an FeMn alloy, Mn552+ (M/n = 27.47) is detected between two Fe isotopes Fe542+=26,97,Fe562+=27,97)...
