Among the thermal properties of aerogels, the most specific is that of thermal insulation. Indeed, due to their texture (submicronic porosity, low density and a network made up for the most part of agglomerated particles), aerogels have very low conductivities that can be lower than the conductivity of air. The material is therefore considered a superinsulator
