2. Mechanical properties

It's easier to use, handle and install a material if you know its mechanical properties beforehand. The material may also need to be machined to give it its final shape. In addition to its properties, it is also necessary to know its reactivity towards the natural environment and, in the case of silica aerogels, its reactivity towards the water contained in the surrounding atmosphere.
