7. Conclusion
Numerical simulation of sheet metal cutting on a press is a difficult problem to tackle, firstly because of the reliability of the assumptions made, particularly when taking damage and crack propagation into account, and secondly because of the complexity of the numerical calculations, which have to be carried out in the context of a formulation involving large displacements and large deformations.
The non-linear calculation algorithms to be developed and the methods to be implemented have shown that it is necessary to have a good understanding of the mechanisms governing the damage evolution of the material to be cut.
If remeshing is not available, it seems that the high distortion of certain mesh elements located in the vicinity of the clearance between the punch and the die, does not influence the accuracy of the calculation, insofar...
