2. Criteria for adhesion and durability during processing

If we limit ourselves to an adhesive system consisting of a bonding agent of any kind and a polymer adhesive, we can consider, as a first approximation, that the system is stable at room temperature, in the absence of mechanical stress and humidity. However, this stability does not mean that the system is free of damage, which can be introduced during its development: porosities in the adhesive, adhesive defects (material discontinuity at the interface), contact defects without adhesion (without material discontinuity at the interface), and that residual stresses (due, for example, to shrinkage following adhesive curing) are zero. It simply means that the damage thresholds likely to cause loss of adhesion have not been reached, and that the function of the assembly is still satisfied over time.
