5. Glossary

  • Additive: chemical substance in solution in a fluid, giving it special physical and chemical properties. Improves performance and/or provides new ones.

  • Aerobic: refers to a micro-organism growing in the presence of oxygen.

  • Anaerobic: refers to a micro-organism growing in the absence of oxygen.

  • Mist suppressant: the ability of a fluid, thanks to additives, to prevent the formation of micro-droplets in the ambient atmosphere around a machine under the pressure of spraying or the movement of a tool.

  • Anticorrosion: the ability of a fluid to use additives to protect machined parts or machine components against corrosion.
