6. Deck to hull assembly

The surfaces of large molded parts, hull and deck, are not very flat. As a rule, this means filling a joint that can be several millimeters thick, or even more for large boats. In this case, a polyester resin-based mastic-glue is used, cured by the addition of a catalyst (benzoyl peroxide or methyl ethyl ketone (see figure 3 ).
ExampleFreefix 6470 putty from Freeman (UK), for example, has a shear strength of 5 to 6 MPa, and can be used up to a few millimeters thick.
Urethane-acrylate adhesives are also used.
