2. Elementary welded assemblies

2.1 General rules for preparing edges for welding

In the context of mechanical parts welded using conventional arc processes (1xx process), the preparation of edges for welding must be studied in the light of various criteria, among the most important of which are :

  • whether or not each face is accessible;

  • thickness to be welded ;

  • the welding process ;

  • the fiber orientation of each element;

  • the dimensions of each element ;

  • the position of the parting line during assembly (in the case of large, non-positionable parts).
