4. Rules defining the quality of welded constructions

4.1 General

Beyond the welded assembly, the definition of a structure by a competent entity (design office, engineer, project manager...) encompasses various aspects:

  • material (mechanical characteristics: R e , R m , ductility, toughness, weldability, durability);

  • design and dimensioning calculations (geometry and loads) ;

  • manufacturing (forming, assembly, heat treatment and NDT) ;

  • testing ;

    which must be specified either by the client (owner, user) or by the previous entity.
