4.1 Measurement uncertainty
Operator measurements can only be used if they can be correctly interpreted, i.e. if the desired quantity can be expressed with a known and satisfactory accuracy.
It is therefore important to be able to trace the exact conditions under which the test was carried out, in order to identify sources of error. A measurement is never perfectly reproducible, since it depends on a range of general parameters such as temperature or atmospheric pressure, as well as parameters relating to the materials used in the test, such as corrosion, fatigue or creep, to name but a few.
