Overview

ABSTRACT
This article presents the good practices which are to be implemented in order to design mechatronic products. The designing process of a mechatronic system can be perceived as a variation of systems engineering with its specificities. Mechatronics requires the placing of the product design within its global life cycle and the simultaneous implementation of an interdisciplinary collaboration using a common integration approach. The specificity of mechatronic products design lies in the various levels of integration: functional, multi-domain and physical, in order to obtain products with higher added-value.

INTRODUCTION
The mechatronics system design approach can be seen as an offshoot of systems engineering, with its own specific features. In its collaborative, interdisciplinary approach, mechatronics requires :
on the one hand, to place product design within its overall life cycle;
simultaneously implement interdisciplinary collaboration, using a common integration approach.
The specificity of mechatronic product design lies in the different levels of integration to be implemented: functional, multi-domain and physical integration, to obtain a product with higher added value.
After detailing these different concepts, this dossier will present the best practices for designing mechatronic products.
A second dossier will describe in detail the design process for mechatronic products, as well as the associated tools and methods.
