2. Applications
To predict the behavior of a mechanical seal, it is necessary to know the thickness of the film lubricating the faces. This is controlled by the forces of hydrostatic pressure, hydrodynamics and contact between asperities. These forces are influenced by the profile of the faces, which varies greatly with the mechanical and thermal loading of the seal. We have studied these different phenomena separately
