While the definition of an enslavement is very clear, the boundary between a command and a transmission is more imprecise. If we refer to the etymology of command, we find the root "manus" indicating human intervention, or at least subordination to an order. A transmission, on the other hand, can be defined as a motion transformer whose state and operation depend essentially on the driven organ.
In practice, hydrostatic transmissions mainly use hydraulic pumps and motors, while controls mainly use cylinders. But this rule is not absolute.
