3. Static strength of shear-loaded assemblies

For this type of assembly, mainly used in aeronautics, where the fasteners are mounted without clearance or with a slight radial tightening (interference), the calculations or verification focus on three points:

  • the force applied to each fastener must not exceed the breaking force ;

  • The matting of assembled parts in the fastener holes must not be excessive;

  • the net stress in the assembled parts, resulting from the application of forces to the net sections (sections of the parts without holes), must not exceed the breaking stress.

Commonly used fasteners are often specially designed for a particular application.
