Overview
ABSTRACT
There are different types of automobile suspensions, each with its own characteristics as well as faults and limitations. The aim of this article is to provide a description of automobile steel suspension springs. Following a major review of the general context of the automobile suspension, as well as the role the spring plays in the suspension, the material and manufacturing techniques of these elements are addressed. The causes that could lead to springs being rejected are very often related to the surface quality: defects made at the steel plant, or when rolling or drawing.
