4. Handling pads

Experience shows that, in order not to exceed friction coefficients of 0.005 for lift pressures ranging from 10 5 to 10 3 Pa, the theoretical flying height must be of the order of 5 × 10 2 to 5 × 10 –1 mm depending on the state of the sliding surface. The power then varies according to the desired flight height and the size and number of cushions.
