1.1 Different turbomachinery families
A turbomachine is a mechanical assembly whose role is to ensure energy exchange between a flowing fluid and a rotor animated by a generally uniform rotational movement around its axis.
For the rest of this article, we'll assume that the flow is permanent.
Depending on the direction of energy exchange, the turbomachine is said to be :
