1.1 Definition and principle
Hydrokinetic couplings, although used to transmit motion between two machines, such as joints, gears, belts, chains, friction discs, etc., are hydraulic machines by virtue of their operating principle.
By definition, in a hydraulic machine, mechanical work is essentially transformed into hydraulic energy.
Based on the direction and number of exchanges, hydraulic machines can be classified into :
hydraulic motors (hydraulic turbines) ;
hydraulic generators (hydraulic pumps) ;
hydraulic transmissions and servo-controls ;
