1.1 Fans

Fans are gas compression devices that deliver low or moderate overpressure. For example, if the fluid is air, at ambient conditions, the overpressure usually varies from 1,500 to 20,000 Pa.

The maximum is reached with centrifugal machines having impeller peripheral speeds not exceeding 200 m/s.

Axial fans are designed for low overpressure applications.

For the study of this type of equipment, we can consider that the variations in fluid volume as it passes through the machine are relatively negligible; all definition calculations can then be carried out as if it were an incompressible fluid.

The fan construction method is often used for blowers.
