3. Classification of electric thrusters

3.1 Categories

The basic principle of electric propulsion is to supply energy to an ergol using a decoupled power source to achieve a level of specific impulse far superior to that produced by a chemical propellant. The classification of concepts and technologies is defined on the basis of how energy is transferred (production of a plasma discharge) and how thrust and I sp are generated (plasma acceleration)
