6. Tests and results

Making measurements on a prototype is a challenge in itself: they need to be made with near-micrometer precision and at an acquisition frequency higher than the speed at which the wings are actuated, in order to track their evolution over time.

6.1 Experimental benches

In order to accurately analyze the spatial movement of our prototype wings and characterize the induced phenomena, several test rigs were developed. The main tool used during this work was the high-speed camera. Thanks to its high acquisition frequency (up to 6,600 images per second at full resolution), the camera enables progressive and detailed visualization of wing deformation and its evolution during flapping (figure
