7. Separation

Separators are designed to separate either another fluid or solids from a fluid for discharge. There are several different families (illustrated on figure 18 ):

  • water separators for steam systems ;

  • oil separators for compressed air systems ;

  • sediment separators, also known as sieve filters, for steam and pumping systems;

  • strainers for pumping systems.
