6. Filtration
6.1 General information and definitions
The aim of filtration is to obtain a suspension of solids in a liquid:
a clear liquid called filtrate, more or less clarified (for example, no particles larger than 100, 10 or 1 μm);
a solid called cake, deposited on the filter or drawn off continuously, more or less dry.
