1. Overview of analysis types based on data types
There are two categories of data manipulated in engine testing:
synthetic quantities, in scalar form, which characterize macroscopically the operation of the motor at a given point;
vector quantities that characterize the engine operating point in detail, but on the scale of the engine cycle.
Synthetic data requires calculations to be carried out in real time, taking into account the parameters recorded at a given time t and used to calculate a formula. A typical example is the calculation of power, the result of measuring torque and rpm. As these two parameters measured on the engine test bench are functions that vary over time and depend, among other things, on the precision of the load machine control and the control loops for the various engine temperatures, the power...

Overview of analysis types based on data types
Conclusion
For several years now, the work of tuners and testers has been profoundly modified, mainly by the arrival in force of electronics and computing, both in engine control and in measurement and test equipment. In the past, the job consisted of fine-tuning by adjusting parameters and settings on the test bench, whereas today, with the arrival of ECUs, all operating possibilities must be considered, as well as the transition from...
