History

The first example of the conversion of a gaseous product by an enzyme was published by Yagi et al. in 1969 . These authors described the conversion of molecular hydrogen (para-hydrogen) to ortho-hydrogen by a hydrogenase. Subsequently, the same team demonstrated that purified hydrogenase can catalyze redox reactions between cytochrome c3 and hydrogen gas
